For the second year running Cunard could bring Sydney to a standstill this weekend when its ocean liners Queen Victoria and QE2 call at the city. The ‘Meeting of Queens’ event follows just one year on from when QE2 and Queen Mary 2 dazzled the city in February 2007.
Queen Victoria, Cunard’s new ocean liner, will be named by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, in the presence of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, during a spectacular ceremony to be held in Southampton on Monday 10 December. The ceremony will start at 1530 hours and last one hour.
The ceremony, to take place on board the new 90,000-ton vessel at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard, marks the completion of a ship noted for striking interiors on a par with the ‘floating palaces’ of the twenties and thirties.
