Maiden Voyage departure for Cunard’s new Queen

Surrounded by fireworks, Queen Victoria, Cunard’s new ocean liner, will depart on her Maiden Voyage from Southampton at 1700 hours on Tuesday 11 December.

The vessel will sail from the City Cruise Terminal so will be clearly viewable to members for the public from Mayflower Park.

This 10-night voyage will call at ports famed for their Christmas markets: Rotterdam (for Amsterdam), Copenhagen (overnight call), Oslo, Hamburg and Zeebrugge (for Bruges). Fares ranged from £999 to £8,679 per person, and the voyage was fully-booked very shortly after going on sale in 2006.

The departure will mark the culmination of a busy four day period for Cunard’s new liner – a period which included her first arrival into Southampton, her home port, (Friday 7 December) and her naming on Monday 10 December by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall in the presence of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales during a spectacular ceremony.

Carol Marlow, Cunard’s President and Managing Director, says:

“We hope as many people as possible will join us down in Mayflower Park for this historic firework-filled, sailaway. It will be a wonderful sight”.
